London calling

Moje podróże to nie tylko Włochy. Owszem, Italia króluje w moim sercu, ale są inne kierunki, które zachwycają lub mieszają w głowie. Do gatunku mieszających, nie wstrząśniętych, zaliczam stolicę Anglii. Londyn robi ogromne wrażenie, pozytywne, choć momentami, jak każde wielkie miasto, skłania do refleksji, a nawet myśli o szybkiej ucieczce.

1. Czerwone akcenty. Jak czerwone paski na brytyjskiej fladze, tak inne czerwone charakterystyczne motywy ubarwiają miejski krajobraz Londynu. Czerwony doubledecker, budka telefoniczna, strój żandarma. Czerwony króluje na londyńskich ulicach.

2. Kwiecista dzielnica Mayfair. Białe elewacje kamienic zdobione są tu przeróżnymi kwiatowymi kompozycjami. W Londynie byłam w maju i to wtedy widok różowego kwiecistego hotelu Annabel’s robił największe wrażenie i… przyciągał rzesze instagramerek. W brytyjskiej edycji Monopolu to właśnie dzielnica Mayfair jest najdroższa.

3. Sky Garden. A właściwie 20 Fenchurch Street, to jeden z nowszych budynków w Londynie. Jeśli chcecie się tu dostać, pamiętajcie o rezerwacji online na mniej więcej tydzień przed planowaną wizytą. Ja nie pamiętałam. Na miejscu okazało się, że ochrona jest odporna na wszelkie błagania. Udało nam się wejść rezerwując stolik w restauracji Darvin Brasserie na poziomie 36. Stąd roztacza się widok na Tamizę i budynek Shard (bardzo instagramerski kadr). Aha, no i w środku znajduje się prawdziwa roślinna dżungla.

4. Tate Modern. Brytyjczycy mają swoją sieć… galerii sztuki! Wszystko pod szyldem „Tate”. Budynek Modern mieści dzieła sztuki współczesnej. Na 10. piętrze znajduje się platforma widokowa 360° i jak możecie się domyslić, widok jest zniewalający. Ogromne wrażenie robią sąsiadujące luksusowe apartamentowce (można zajrzeć do salonu, a nawet sypialni), które zapewne będąc inwestycją, pozostają niezamieszkałe.

5. Notting Hill. Nic nie widziałam, bo wypatrywałam Hugh Granta. A tak na serio, to moim zdaniem najpiękniejsza dzielnica Londynu. Białe budyneczki, palmy w ogrodach i zabytkowe samochody zaparkowane na podjazdach. Życie tętni tu wzdłuż Portobello Road, gdzie znajduje się Portobello Market, targ, na którym kupicie wszystko od antyków przez rękodzieło po lokalne smakołyki.

My beloved destination is Italy, but still there are other directions, that delight or mess in my head. A visit that will leave you shaken, not stirred, is the trip to capital of England. London makes a big impression, positive, but like other big cities, makes you reflect and even sometimes think about running away.

1. Red accents. Like red stripes on the British flag, other red characteristic spots add color to the urban landscape of London. Red doubledecker, telephone booth, Queen’s Life Guards. Red colour rules London’s streets.

2. Blooming Mayfair district. The white elevations of tenement houses are decorated with various floral compositions. Hotel Annabel’s really makes a huge impression and… attracts instagrammers from all over the world. In the UK Monopoly game, Mayfair is the most expensive district.

3. Sky Garden. Actually, 20 Fenchurch Street, is one of the newest buildings in London. If you want to get there, remember to book online your visit one week before (entrance is free). So, I didn’t remember. When we came there, it turned out that guards are like stone, immune to all our begging. We managed to enter by reserving a table in a restaurant on 36 Level called Darvin Brasserie. From Sky Garden you have a view of the River Thames and The Shard building (view that will rock your Instagram).

4. Tate Modern. The British have their own chain… of art galeries called ‚Tate’. The Tate Modern building is dedicated to modern art. On the 10th floor there is a 360° viewing platform and, as you can imagine, the view is captivating. The neighboring luxury apartment buildings are impressive (you can look into the living room or even the bedroom). As appartments are probably an investment, they remain uninhabited.

5. Notting Hill. I didn’t see anything because I was looking for Hugh Grant. And seriously, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful district of London. White buildings, palm trees in the gardens and old cars parked on the driveways. Life is buzzing along Portobello Road. If you reach Portobello Market, you can buy there everything from antiques through handicrafts to local delicacies.
